A Pastor: October 7, 2018
1 Timothy 3:1-5 – English Standard Version (ESV)
1 The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. 2 Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. 4 He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, 5 for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church? |
3 Chinese Union Version Modern Punctuation (Traditional) (CUVMPT)
INTRODUCTION
I. To Be a Pastor (Overseer) is a Noble Task TEXT: 1 The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task.
II. To Be a Pastor is More about Character than Capabilities Text: 2 Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, 3 not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money,
III. To Be a Pastor Means You Will Nurture Your Home TEXT: 4 He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, 5 for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God’s church?
CONCLUSION
Quotes: The pastor’s responsibility is to keep the community attentive to God. Eugene H. Peterson
Three pastoral acts are so basic, so critical, that they determine the shape of everything else. The acts are praying, reading Scripture, and giving spiritual direction. Since almost never does anyone notice whether we do these things or not, and only occasionally does someone ask that we do them, these three acts of ministry suffer widespread neglect. Eugene H. Peterson
There is a saying among physicians that the doctor who is his own doctor has a fool for a doctor. In the same manner, a pastor needs to have mentors in his or her life who will speak the truth, ask questions, push and challenge us to walk with God in integrity. A Pastor should cultivate these relationships. It is a matter of survival and spiritual fitness. |
II. 品格與才幹 經文:。 2 做監督的,必須無可指責,只做一個婦人的丈夫,有節制,自守,端正,樂意接待遠人,善於教導; 3 不因酒滋事,不打人,只要溫和,不爭競,不貪財;
III.
Eugene H. Peterson
Eugene H. Peterson
