God’s Mission – Prophets for His Kingdom: January 16, 2011
Scripture – 1 Peter 2:9-10 (NIV)
9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Scripture – Jeremiah 1:4-12 (NIV)
4 The word of the LORD came to me, saying,
5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
before you were born I set you apart;
I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.â€
6 “Alas, Sovereign LORD,†I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.â€
7 But the LORD said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. 8 Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,†declares the LORD.
9 Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth. 10 See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant.â€
11 The word of the LORD came to me: “What do you see, Jeremiah?â€
“I see the branch of an almond tree,†I replied.
12 The LORD said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.â€

Reflections on today’s sermon:
- In my life, what is one particularly glaring inconsistency with what God intends for me and how I’m living?
- How have I responded to that inconsistency?
- How can I actively stand against these inconsistencies in order to prevent them from continuing?

God has called us for a mission to be voices for the values and passions of God’s kingdom. We must stand as mouthpieces for God to proclaim God’s intention for our world.
